Well, I guess I was wrong in my previous guess on who was playing with McLaughlin. I thought it was the Vitous lineup on Mountains in the Clouds, a great CD featuring Freedom Jazz Dance. But this group is right out of Miles sessions, and this recording is spectacular and just as rare.
Another priceless gem from jazzfusion.tv.
How do you pull this off?
Can't thank you enough, man, really amazing performance just keep piling up.
my head is about to explode!,...
and I blame jazzfusion.tv.
lol
Thanx man,
David

Great site! Thanks for putting all the effort into this. I googled Billy Cobham Paul's Mall and found your site. Growing up in Boston I attended many of these great shows at Paul Mall and Jazz Workshop. I love to listen to these, it brings back a lot of good memories. I now live in San Diego, CA and was wondering if any one had a copy of a great show I saw out here in 1995. The show was Jeff Beck and Santana. The Jeff Beck show was amazing. It featured Jeff Beck, Tony Hymas, Pino Pallidino and Terry Bozzio. The show played all over the US, so if anyone has a copy please share.
Thanks again Eric

Correction:
Just to clarify, my previous comments were about the NYCity John McLaughlin 1968 performance.
the one in Germany presumably has the same personel, but the stuff they chose to play on that one is total free jazz,...
very grating, like they're play Cecil Taylor arrangements.
good but the NYC concert is all time.
thanx

PS
on the LP I mentioned this group playing, I think Wayne Shorter was the sax player. Also my favorite song from that album was a mean version of Freedom Jazz Dance that was spearheaded by Vitous in an incredibly innovative version of this monster classic that literally was one of the original bridges built from the accoustic Miles Quintet to the electric groups on the way.
So Ofcourse I was hoping this perfomance provided a live take, but no such luck. the Luck came in that the whole thing is a monster, and the last song, leaned on one of the meanest fusion grooves I've ever heard. THE LAST ONE IS KILLER! wow.
thanx again for the invaluable musical experience.

Finally got around to listening to a performance listed under John Mclaughlin from 1968 and was super happy to discover that it sounded an awful like the Miroslav Vitous LP that formed the group of Mclaughlin, DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock which released the LP "Mountain in the Clouds".
It's definitely Mclaughlin and Vitous and DeJohnette, and it very well could be Hancock too!!
This performance is awsome. thanx so much for making it available. This was a true super group of the highest order.
Great website. awsome.
